Frequently asked questions about Search Goblin's Report Hub features, dashboards, and data analysis tools.
Getting Started
How do I connect my Google Search Console account?
To connect your Google Search Console account to Search Goblin:
- Go to your Profile Settings
- Click "Connect Google Account" in the Search Console section
- Authorize Search Goblin to access your Search Console data
- Select the properties you want to analyze
Note: You need to be verified as a property owner in Google Search Console.
What if I don't have a Google Search Console account?
You'll need to set up Google Search Console first:
- Go to Google Search Console
- Add and verify your website property
- Wait for data to start appearing (can take 24-48 hours)
- Then connect it to Search Goblin
Search Goblin requires Search Console data to function, as it's the source of all search performance metrics.
Can I connect multiple Search Console properties?
Yes! You can connect multiple Search Console properties to analyze different websites. However, you can only view one property at a time in the dashboards. Use the property selector in the top navigation to switch between properties.
Data & Metrics
Why is my data different from Google Search Console?
Search Goblin displays the same data as Google Search Console, but there may be slight differences due to:
- Data processing time: Up to 3 days delay for data to appear
- Time zones: Different time zone settings
- Filtering options: Applied filters may show different subsets
- Data sampling: Google may sample very large datasets
If you notice significant differences, try refreshing the data or check your date range settings.
How often is the data updated?
Data is automatically synced with Google Search Console every 24 hours. You can also manually refresh the data using the refresh button in the dashboard. Note that Google Search Console itself has a 2-3 day delay for data availability.
Why are some metrics showing as zero?
Zero values can occur when:
- No data is available for the selected date range
- Filters are too restrictive (try removing some filters)
- Your site is very new and hasn't accumulated data yet
- You're looking at a very specific subset of data
Try expanding your date range or removing some filters to see more data.
What does "Not set" mean in my data?
"Not set" appears when Google Search Console doesn't have specific information for that dimension. This commonly occurs with:
- Country: When location data isn't available
- Device: When device type can't be determined
- Search Type: When the search type is unclear
This is normal and doesn't indicate a problem with your data.
Dashboard Usage
How do I change the date range in my dashboard?
To change the date range:
- Look for the date picker in the top-right corner of any dashboard
- Click on the date range to open the calendar
- Select your desired start and end dates
- Click "Apply" to update the dashboard
You can also use preset ranges like "Last 7 days," "Last 28 days," or "Last 3 months."
Can I compare different time periods?
Yes! Use the comparison feature to compare your current performance with previous periods:
- Year-over-year: Compare with the same period last year
- Month-over-month: Compare with the previous month
- Week-over-week: Compare with the previous week
- Custom comparison: Compare any two specific date ranges
Look for the comparison toggle in the dashboard controls.
What's the difference between the Main Dashboard and other dashboards?
Each dashboard focuses on different aspects of your search data:
- Main Dashboard: Overall performance metrics and trends
- N-gram Analysis: Search query patterns and content opportunities
- URL Segments: Performance by site structure and page types
- Search Terms by Page: Which queries lead to which pages
- Opportunity Dashboard: Quick wins and optimization opportunities
How do I export my dashboard data?
You can export data in three formats:
- CSV: Raw data for detailed analysis in Excel or Google Sheets
- Excel: Formatted workbook with multiple sheets and charts
- PDF: Professional report format for presentations
Look for the export buttons in the top-right corner of each dashboard.
Troubleshooting
My dashboard is loading slowly. What can I do?
Slow loading can be caused by several factors:
- Large date ranges: Try selecting a shorter time period
- Many filters: Remove unnecessary filters to reduce data processing
- Browser cache: Clear your browser cache and cookies
- Internet connection: Check your connection speed
If the problem persists, try refreshing the page or contact support.
I'm getting an error message about data access. What should I do?
Data access errors usually indicate a problem with your Google Search Console connection:
- Check if your Google account is still connected in Profile Settings
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting your Google account
- Verify that you still have access to the Search Console property
- Check if your Google account permissions are still valid
If the problem continues, contact support with the specific error message.
Why can't I see data for today or yesterday?
Google Search Console has a 2-3 day delay for data availability. This is normal and not a Search Goblin issue. Recent data (today, yesterday) won't be available until Google processes it. Try selecting a date range that starts 3-4 days ago to see the most recent available data.
My charts aren't displaying properly. What's wrong?
Chart display issues can be caused by:
- Browser compatibility: Try using Chrome, Firefox, or Safari
- JavaScript disabled: Make sure JavaScript is enabled in your browser
- Ad blockers: Some ad blockers interfere with chart rendering
- Browser cache: Clear your browser cache and reload the page
If the problem persists, try using a different browser or contact support.
Advanced Features
What is n-gram analysis and how do I use it?
N-gram analysis breaks down your search queries into smaller phrases (1-gram, 2-gram, 3-gram, etc.) to identify patterns and content opportunities:
- 1-grams: Individual words (e.g., "seo", "marketing")
- 2-grams: Two-word phrases (e.g., "seo tips", "marketing strategy")
- 3-grams: Three-word phrases (e.g., "best seo tips", "digital marketing strategy")
Use this to discover what topics your audience is searching for and identify content gaps.
How does the Opportunity Dashboard identify quick wins?
The Opportunity Dashboard uses several criteria to identify quick wins:
- Striking distance: Pages ranking 4-10 that could easily reach top 3
- High impression, low click pages: Pages with good visibility but poor CTR
- Decaying content: Pages that used to rank well but are declining
- Keyword cannibalization: Multiple pages competing for the same keywords
Focus on these opportunities for the biggest impact with minimal effort.
Can I set up automated reports or alerts?
Currently, Search Goblin doesn't offer automated reports or alerts, but this feature is planned for future releases. For now, you can:
- Set up a regular schedule to check your dashboards
- Export data regularly for your own reporting
- Use the AI insights to identify important changes
We'll notify users when automated reporting becomes available.
